The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene has named Dr. Samson Kinyanjui as winner of the 2019 Chalmers Medal Winner. This honour was announced at the 11th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health held in Liverpool this week.
Dr. Kinyanjui works at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI)-Wellcome Trust Research in Kenya where his interests are around understanding of immunity to Malaria. Over the past 10 years, Dr Kinyanjui has promoted capacity building for health research in Africa and has been instrumental in persuading African Governments to fulfil their commitment of allocating up to 2% of GDP to research. The Head of the Economic Section at the Kenya High Commission London, Mr. James Kiiru, attended the conference where he joined other Kenyan researchers in celebrating this milestone.
