Kenya is seeking to be re-elected to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under Category “C” and campaigns have gathered pace.
The Kenya High Commission London is holding outreach events with IMO member countries, with the latest being the European and Caribbean groups to drum up support for the seat.
Kenya has already held outreach events for Africa and South America. Elections will be held at IMO's London headquarters on November 29 in the week the IMO holds meetings of Ministers of transport and senior officials.
As a specialized agency of the United Nations, IMO is the global standard-setting authority for the safety, security and environmental performance of international shipping. Its main role is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted and universally implemented.
